I guess a countdown is due: Including this week I have only 6 work weeks before my summer holiday starts! YAY! As I will spend 2 days in Berlin this leaves me with 28 days in the office. Roughly speaking. I guess I will still work from home some days. So with this being said I turn away from the future. One of my 2015 goals was not to live so much in the future anymore!
Not so far in the future though 😉 But I do believe that happiness is not a future state of being, it’s something you have to create exactly where you’re here and now. So far I do pretty well I might say 😉
So let me show some of my happy moments from last week and also some nasty stuff! And let’s properly catch up today!
I work and I went to Crossfit a few times. I don’t have much more to say. I feel my muscles grow and finally I can also see my body changing. The changes mainly occur in temporary blue coloration of specific body parts, especially on my shoulders, knees and shins with the occasional whip mark on my calves or upper arms. Okay it’s bruises. No but jokes aside my upper body has changed dramatically. As my lower body when I think of it. I can’t wear any pants anymore unless the really stretchy ones and even cotton shirts have their pitfalls. But I don’t complain. I feel awesome.
Stefan also started Crossfit a few weeks back and he already realized that he needs much more food than before. The times where salad was an acceptable lunch or roasted veggies made a terrific dinner are over. We eat ridiculous amounts of bread, cheese and meat besides the veggies and this too feels absolutely great. Bring on the #sandwichporn!
I realized that I always say how good everything was I ate and everything is #yummy bla bla bla. Let me show you two food fails from last week instead today.
I was food shopping on my way home from work and I was starving. Not only starving but I was about to lose it! It was that bad. So I picked up a protein bar randomly to get me over the 45 min ride back home. Sesame sounded nice. I ripped off the packaging and took a bite and… really carefully studied the packaging again because I wasn’t entirely sure if I didn’t just eat a dog biscuit????? It was disgusting! I ate it anyways because, well I was about to lose it and I had still 45 min until home. Ugh!
the other day I was going out for lunch with my colleagues to a Bavarian beergarden and next to the inevitable currywurst and french fries they offered hummus and carrot slaw. Nice I thought. When the food arrived I was a bit amused. Only a Bavarian restaurant would be able to assimilate the look of the oriental food to something Bavarian looking! Unfortunately they had also assimilated the taste to something inedible. If they told me the hummus was mashed potato I would have believed that, too! Disgusting mashed potato I might add!
On Wednesday I had my PhD colloquium and so I had worked that morning from home. When I wanted to take the train to Munich, I came to the platform just to find a no service sign there. I waited for 30 min and then gave up. I mady myself comfortable in a nearby café waiting for my mum with a cup of coffee in the sun. An unexpected blissful moment the public transport gave me.
Then my mum came and brought also my aunt and sister and we sat there for another two hours first having alcohol free summer cocktails. I chose fresh garden made of soda, cucumber, lime and basil. Very yummy and refreshing!
Later we had a Hugo each! Sparkling wine, soda and elderflower syrup, topped with a little mint! Perfect for coping with the heat wave!
I don’t complain about the heat but it’s not all rainbows and butterflies either. I have some issues with my thrombosis leg due to the heat and I had to leave work early twice last week as my leg was swollen and felt funny. I could do without that. It’s not at the point where I have to start wearing the tights but it’s close. Fingers crossed that this cup will pass from me!
The weekend was relatively slow. Friday was my evening home alone. Stefan had a work party so I had some ‘me time’. I wisely spend it watching Daria for 1 h and then falling asleep at 8.30 pm. Fail! On Saturday we visited Stefan’s sister and spend the evening with her. It was nice. She’s fun and I like her a lot!
Okay let’s talk food now. I have a feeling that my whole life centers around food. I like it! I feel not sorry about it!
Last week I posted two epic recipes! And when I say epic I mean earth shattering epic. It’s crazy how very simple things often turn out to be the game changer. Like this butter!
Put some Sriracha Lime Butter on a slice of bread and make a sandwich with it! Boom! Epic!
Put a little Lemon Thyme Butter on a piece of meat or your grilled veggies. Boom! Epic! Especially when you have marinaded the meat in this slightly sweet and creamy Cherry Thyme Marinade! The flavors of the butter and marinade are a match made in heaven! They totally complete each other.
Best thing about heat waves though is that you can
a) drink all your meals! This was a Coconut Protein Frappuccino with some roasted marshmallows on top!
b) spend the evenings outside without fearing it will be chilly at some point! Like yesterday when we had a BBQ on the balcony and didn’t go in until 11 pm? Awesome! Ah yeah you spotted the Chimichurri! I have a teeny tiny fling with it 😉
Next blissful thing to come: I AM GOING TO THE MOVIES TONIGHT WATCHING THE MINIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a great day and a good start to the week!
