And just like that I am back at home. It’s always astonishing how fast 5 days can pass. And it’s also always totally astonishing how much food I can eat in only 5 days.
To be honest I had a bit of mixed feelings regarding this whole going on a trip with your family thing and all in all my feelings were right. Don’t get me wrong, we had a good time and much fun but we had also our fair share of tense moments. I am not going to bitch about my family but who’s ever been on a holiday with the parents and siblings as an adult might understand what I am talking about. So far so good today I am going to share a few of our London highlights!
Without any special order these were the top 10 funnies/ yummiest/ nicest moments of out trip!
1. Having a good laugh over a few pint and even my mum drank a whole Guinness!
2. Going on the Jack the Ripper Walking Tour!
Stefan and I meant to go for 5 years and this time we finally did it. It was so very cool I can’t say more. The guide, Rex, took us on a tour through the West End and the City of 1888 and not only told us all saved facts about Jack the ripper but also fed his story with interesting bits and pieces of the life at this time in London. I can totally recommend the tour and him as a guide. Five gold stars for story telling and engaging the group.
3. Almost making it to Hogwarts
Yes these are Harry Potter glasses. I am a nerd! But not half as nerdy as many of those in my group on the Harry Potter movie scenes walking tour! They knew EVERYTHING!!!! I personally can’t name all dragons! So this means I am still kinda cool! Hooray!
4. Finding Hufflepuff memorabilia – it really exists!
It looked so alone and unwanted. I almost bought something because I felt so bad about the untouched jumpers and scrarfs.
5. Eating my body weight at the whole foods salad bar!
And I didn’t eat a single green leaf! This time I was smart and piled only the good stuff on the plate.
6. Borough Market!
One of my favorite places in the city! Eating sweet potato burger and drinking Pimm’s, buying cookies the size of my face, strolling, drifting, smelling, tasting, enjoying the surroundings! And all those colors!
7. Going for a walk at the riverside, Covent Garden and Soho
8. Having an evening to ourselves!
We had bought Musical Tickets for my mum and sister and so on Friday we had an evening off to ourselves. We went on a little shopping spree, had dinner together and ended the day in one of our favorite pubs shameless posing and selfie taking included.
9. Saturday morning on Portobello Road Market
I love to wander this market and indulge in too many baked goodies. We usually end the visit with a piece of this Pizza! We were 4 and got rocket and parmesan, potato and bacon and parma ham.
10. Just having fun!
Because that’s the good thing about vacation with the beloved family. No matter what, they stuck! And we’re not an easy bunch to be related to. We’re a bit mean to each other 😉 Including laughing loud at ourselves but louder at the others, photobombing each other, telling each other to shut the fuck up and NOT being offended, daydrinking, nightdrinking, grabbing bites from the other people’s plates without asking for permission, telling each other he/she looked like shite, yelling at each other, saying sorry afterwards (most of the time) and expect that no one’s ever really pissed off…..
And when my sister left the car at her appartment she spoke the only possible truth about these 5 days: I love you all, I had a great time and I hope not to see you for a few days!
With those wise words I say goodbye for today. My colleague is off sick and I have to cover for her. Means I have to hast a workshop for 40 people and I don’t have a single clue about what to do. Thanks for having me back…..
Oh and before you leave, today is World IBD Day! As suffering from ulcerative colitis I am of couse spreading the word. But instead of sharing my own journey again (which I did here and here) I am entrusting this great post from Mangia Paleo to you.
Have a good day lovelies!
