Catching up Monday #6 – The Burger week

November 17, 2014 by Juli 5 Comments

I can’t believe it’s already middle of October yikes – November! Time is running and I can’t say that I am suffering from boredom. My life is hectic and full, I am running from appointment to appointment and I am feeling a bit worn out. Yet I love it!

Lately I am ridiculously happy. It’s not the big things like my fantastic honeymoon this summer it’s more the tiny everyday things that make me smile and feel genuinely content and satisfied with my place in life. It’s sitting on the couch with my partner in crime watching TV, it’s smashing a workout, it’s sorting out a strategy for my PhD at Starbucks and it’s smelling christmas spices and looking forward to baking some epic gingerbread cookies with my nieces and nephew.

Okay now I am too cheesy. Yet I am complaining and ranting so much here that I felt the need to express my happiness here from time to time too. Because usually I am just complaining about first world problems. But enough now. Let’s catch up – it’s Monday. A new week and new opportunities…

Letโ€™s start with the social partโ€ฆ

My social life starts usually on Friday but last week we had concert tickets for Linkin Park in Munich. I wanted to see them for ages and never made it. I also put this on my 30before30 list. And so this is the first thing I can officially check off now ๐Ÿ™‚

The concert was fantastic. The show amazing and they played most of my favorite songs. We came home pretty late and I was happy that I got to work from home on Friday.

We were invited to a friend’s birthday party on Friday evening but we managed to squeeze in a short dinner date before. We went to one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in Munich. The food is amazing and the portion sizes are unbelievable. Needless to say that I didn’t finish off that portion. 20141114_184617

Later we met a ton of old friends at that said birthday bash. It’s always so good to meet with those you know what feels like forever. It’s so easy and you don’t feel the need to be smart or nice or fulfill any social desirability. You can be truthfully you – your friends like you anyways.

So Saturday morning was slow. We both had a bit of a headache and with my mum-in-laws birthday party in the afternoon we just hung out on the couch. In the afternoon we all met for coffee and cake. It was very nice to catch up with my family and spend some time with the kids. We also had dinner together and I was beyond tired when we finally arrived at home around 11 pm.

We couldn’t sleep in on Sunday as we met our friend Steffi for Breakfast. We hadn’t met for a few month and we had a lot to talk about. Her new-bought house, the refurbishments, her job, out holidays but first and foremost EVERYTHING about her pregnancy she announced to us. I am beyond happy for her and her boyfriend. They’ll be fantastic parents. No doubt about that!

Let’s move onto the work part…

On Thursday my colleague Katharina was defending her dissertation and of course she was brilliant. My colleague Ulrike and I made her a graduation cap with sparkling rhinestone. It was really great to see her that happy!

I am still interviewing my Mentees and so far my interviews are beyond my wildest believes. I will have so much interesting date in a few weeks that it’s really a struggle not to get lost in all the possibilities. On Friday I used the day at Starbucks to go back to the roots of my research project. That helped a lot to still see the trees despite of the woods. Next step, analyzing a few numbers ๐Ÿ™‚

Work work gets better now. After next Tuesday we just have to make the project accounting and reporting and then we’ll have time to start the next rung commencing April. I am already excited about my new participants and the new run.

And then thereโ€™s the workout partโ€ฆ

On Monday I had soccer practice with the girls and I tortured them with a 30 minutes of leg strength exercises. So I let them squat and lunge and jump ๐Ÿ˜‰

Tuesday’s Crossfit WOD was a sweaty session of what felt like a bazillion of kettlebell swings and single unders. I am not capable of doing double unders in the workouts but I am getting better at practice.

On Wednesday we tested out front squat maxes and I smashed my PR. YAY! My posture is not perfect but I work on it. It was a lot of fun! I love lifting heavy!

I squeezed in my third Crossfit session on Sunday. We hand a lot and carried some heavy weights and my arms felt like gummi worms in the end. What a luck that I started my Push-up challenge today ๐Ÿ˜‰

Last but obviously not least, letโ€™s move onto food!!!

Oh yeah, food. Great food was involved last week as you can see here. Last week was about all the burgers! I am absolutely obsessed with those tofu burgers. My organic supermarkt sells them and I had them three times last week ๐Ÿ˜›

And then I made a huge batch of my favorite Vegan Burgers. They always hit the spot. A little sweet, a little salty, a little spicy – okay pretty spicy and massively delicious.

Vegan Burger Patties

But of course I couldn’t deny my love of beef burgers completely.

Luckily I still have leftovers which I will devour NOW! I am ravenous! Luckily I am again working from home today so my lunch is all leftovers and PJs. Right down my alley ๐Ÿ™‚ Life is good, isn’t it?

With that said lovelies, I wish you a very nice day and good start to the week!

A burger kick is a fun kick to be on. Enjoy the ride while it lasts.

Also, I can’t believe you taunted me with gummy worms but didn’t actually eat any. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I absolutely agree. This weeks is in no way inferior to last when it comes to my burger intake. And I enjoy it immensely ๐Ÿ™‚ I am sorry I taunted you but I am really the chocolate kind of girl. I don’t particularly enjoy the gummi stuff – so sorry ๐Ÿ˜‰
