I know I said this before but I have to repeat that I must have been insane when I committed myself to running a half! Didn’t I realize how bloody long 21 km are!
Well now I know!
This morning I had to undergo a medical examination and due to preparing myself for it I had to stay at home yesterday afternoon and evening and wasn’t allowed to eat after 3pm. So as I knew I was trapped I decided I could spend the morning with a long run.
As my husband registered for the half as well I asked him to run with me nd he agreed. The route we took last time was not very nice and we wanted to run 18k instead of 15k. So I consulted google maps and found a nice circuit of 19,5k. With a little detour the circuit was exactly 21k. So I thought 18/ 21 no big difference. So we got dressed and set off.
It was a little damp outside but nothing unbearable. But the fog! It was so foggy that you could barely see over 50m. Though we know the area we got lost at some point and needed to run along the edge of the woods till we found the trail again. The first 5k were okay but I didn’t find my stride. The next 7k were bearable until I needed to pee. I followed the call of nature but didn’t find into a comfortable pace after. The next 6k were simply a chore through which we worked our way. Then came the last 3k which were nothing but utterly excruciating!
We reached our finish in slow motion and were both extremely sore and nearly dead! We couldn’t move for the rest of the day and today I am still a bit stiff. I know 21k are not a piece of cake but I thought I would push through better. I blame my slight malnutrition from the last days for a part of my bad constitution but basically I realized that I need to train a lot more!
Here’s my details:
Worst thing was that I wasn’t allowed to eat solid food anymore when I came home. So I made a huge batch of soy yoghurt with mashed banana with which I stuffed my face. Luckily I was allowed to drink whatever I wanted so I drank a solid amount of alcohol free beer (we have some quite good stuff here in Germany) to get some more carbs into me.
I passed out on the sofa pretty soon. My examination went well but I am still recovering from the light narcosis. We’ll go food shopping later on and tonight we’ll watch Oceans 13 in order to get into the right mood for honeymoon planning. We’re both really looking forward to Las Vegas and I am sure we’ll have some Danny and Rusty moments 🙂 Besides that my favorite lines are Linus’
It is not a prop for prop’s sake!
So bear with my if I talk nonsense but I might still be under the influence of anesthetic drugs.
I hope you have a good start to the week and
I guess I’ll see you when I see you 😀
