Week in Review – The Jetlagged Edition

June 18, 2018 by Juli 10 Comments

And just like that, it’s Monday again…

Hello party people, long time no see. I’ve been on vacation and it was everything. But more on that to come in a minute…

So we came back home from our US trip last Monday and I have been jetlagged all week. My sleeping is all over the place. I stay up until 2 pm and once I even slept until 9.30 am. For someone who usually gets up at 6 am without needing an alarm this was kinda unheard of.  So this week will be all about working on my sleeping patterns. I have lots and lots of things to do and need to be fully awake – mind and body.

But what can I say, the trip was worth every time of jetlag that might follow.

First, we spent a week in Cleveland visiting Meghan and her lovely family.

To highlight just a few things, we went on a canopy tour, petted rays and tortoises at the aquarium, went on a picnic and a paddle boat tour, hit up a few great restaurants and cooked at home. It was the perfect mix of outdoor activities and relaxing. And since we left we miss them a lot!

On our way home, we extended out overlay in New York for a few days. New York was all about eating and walking. Or to be precise walking from one place to eat to the next. And we did loads of both! Roughly estimated we walked well over 50k in three and a half days. Roughly estimated we hit about the same amount of calories, too. I cannot say I’d regret a single bite.

Since being back home though I focus on cooking healthier. I think I have cooked and eaten more veggies in the last week than I have in one month. I don’t hate it! Actually, I really enjoy it!

I try to establish better boundaries for me now. And I am not really good at it. The weeks leading up to my trip had been all about me neglecting my own responsibilities and work and making everything work for everybody else. I just find it incredibly difficult to say no at the moment when anyone asks me to do anything. But now I really have to get my own life together again and focus on myself. Cross your fingers for me. I really wonder why I find this so incredibly hard!

Even though I was rather tired and tried to get back in a routine I had a few fun things planned as well.

I caught up with my mum over coffee. We also went through a huge stack of old family pictures. It was so interesting to see pictures of my young ancestors from the late 1800s to the 1970s.

We celebrated our 5-year wedding anniversary part II by eating Thai Curry!

I got a manicure and also went to Crossfit and got my ass kicked!

As Stefan needs new jeans and shirts I spent a significant amount of time online shopping for him. I love shopping for him and I ordered a lot of items he’d not pick for himself. Like Chinos and V-nack shirts. Maybe I can even make him keep something.

We had a BBQ and catch up getting your life back celebration with my friend who just handed in her dissertation.

We watched the Germany vs Mexico Soccer match and it was meh. I used to be into watching Soccer but I am just not anymore. I was definitely more into the Pizza and beer flight even though they forgot the tomato sauce on my pizza. The picture below shows Stefan’s pizza.

I spent some time planning a few picture ideas I have. After feeling completely stuck in a rut I kinda found new inspiration in my complete lack of creativity. I also appreciate the irony in this!

Last but not least I finally started to use my planner again and I really think it makes me more productive. I hope the productivity will continue this week. My procrastinating is getting on my nerves.

So this week I have a few appointments and workouts planned, but apart from that, I will focus on getting my dissertation print-ready. Finally. Hopefully!

Your picture with the tiles is wonderful! Love it! I wish I had that talent, but sadly… NYC is definitely not the place to try to diet. So much good food there. I love to visit. Congratulations on your 5 year anniversary!

Thank you so much Laurie 🙂 But it’s not talent, it’s just practice!
Oh gosh no, certainly not a place to diet! Travelling never is 😉

We seem to be on the same sort of cosmic wave of trying to take care of yourselves while tapping into our creative outlets again. Hooray for planner shenanigans. Hopefully I helped inspire that.

Your opening picture is incredible. I love it.

I need another Lightroom tutorial. I’ll add it to our next trip list, along with curry. I didn’t get to try any of Stefan’s famous curry.

I miss you guys. Thank you so much for coming. I’m already looking forward to our next meet up.

Returning from a trip is always sooooo hard. Sounds like your return has also come at a time of other internal conflicts. But maybe like your new found creativity – stemming from a so called “lack of creativity” – something new and better will come out of this rut of procrastination. I don’t know if that makes sense. Basically what I’m saying is good luck trying to get those feet under you again, and I have a feeling that things are going to be okay.

Your trip to Cleveland looked incredible. And your jaunt (literally) in NYC sounds amazing as well.

Your pictures are stunning. I also started using my planner again last week! I hope it continues to feel good for both of us.

It makes sense! I have posted a recipe post today for the first time in forever. And I had the most productive and happy morning in forever (since coming home at least). Partly I think it’s because I am more organized again and partly I think it’s because I am just in a really good mood! Fingers crossed the planner brings both of us the joy we hope for! I so hope your feeling is right. I am ready to start again!
Yes, it was indeed incredible 😀 I couldn’t have asked for a better time.

I still can’t believe they forgot the tomato sauce on your pizza… That’s so odd!
I’m trying to use my planner more too. I think I’m just as organised as before but somehow putting it all down on paper and allocating it to a certain date and time just helps me feel a little less stressed. I don’t need to have everything flowing through my head if it’s all down on paper. I’m so glad you had a wonderful time away. We did so much walking in Sydney too, over 80km altogether, and my calves hurt for days afterwards! But walking is just the best way to soak up everything a city has to offer. I know I will get to New York one day, it’s high on my list!
And I can only imagine how much fun it was to look through all your old family photos. It’s brilliant that you have some that are from the 1800’s. So rare to have survived!

      This is so weird, right?
Yes, I love the calendar fur its function as a brain dump.
Oh gosh, don’t get me started with walking in Sydney. It was A LOT! I mean everything is walkable in theory but it just adds up so quickly! I agree 100%! Walking > anything else.
Those photos are still few and far between but it’s so cool even to see the ones from the 30s, 40s…
