I have failed to come up with a clever title for today’s post so we have to go with the obvious. I am afraid so!
Peeps, originally I intended to share a typical day of working from home with you today. After inviting you to spend a day travelling with us in September (still the funniest post I have ever written – I mean I had the best time ever writing it) I thought it would be fun to invite you to spend a day with me when I work from home.
I doubt there’s anyone reading blogs who is not interested in peeking behind the curtains of other people’s lives. In the end of the day we are all nosy little creepers. And in my eyes that’s totally acceptable as long as we keep the creeping online and PG appropriate. You’re with me? Perfect!
As I said, I originally intended to share a typical day of working from home with you but sometimes life just happens and then work tends just not to happen the way I originally planned. But that doesn’t mean I can’t share a rather untypical day of working from home with you instead, right?
Right! Let’s get the ball rolling…..
7 am – I get up an hour later than usual. I’ve been working until 9.30 pm on Monday so I allow me a little more sleep this morning. It’s glorious and I am exceptionally cheery after a week of being super cranky! I hop out of the bed and go to the bathroom. Stefan is already gone and I have the apartment to myself. I walk through the rooms and open a few windows while brushing my teeth.
7.10 am – I make me a cup of the hot black life potion, put on socks and make myself comfortable on my couch. I am still wearing pjs and I have no intention to change into something decent soon. I start drinking my coffee and chat a little with the hubby who’s on his way from the tube to work already. When we hang up I open youtube to indulge in a few minutes of my current favorite time sucker #1!
8.00 am – I get hungry now. I rummage throught he kitchen and nothing looks appealing but my lunch. So I spontaneously decide to deal with the lack of appealing food later that day and eat my lunch for breakfast. Cold Parmesan Marinara Meatballs with a side of toasted bread it is. I decide that it’s acceptable to watch another youtube video while I am eating. I mean what should I do instead? It’s not that I could actually get some work done whilst eating breakfast, right?
8.30 am – I decide that I have spent enough time on youtube
8.31 am – I decide that before I start working I’d brew me another mug of coffee. And since I am technically still having breakfast I could also watch just one other video on youtube
9.15 am – Finally I shut off damn youtube
9.17 am – Though I am by no means opposed to wearing my PJ all day – and that might or might not have happened on a few occasions before – I decide to get dressed properly to set myself up for working now. In all seriousness. I end up in Nike pants and a hoody. Great job! I give myself a mental high five. Fine feathers make fine birds.
9.30 am – I start my computer and I am ready to conquer the world! While my email program is loading I realize that the coffee table is pretty dusty. And the dresser with the TV on it as well. And I really can’t work in a dirty environment. I just quickly dust the living room. And the floor. Yes, that feels way better!
9.40 am – I check my mails, reply to a few and send out some information to my clients. Gosh I am so busy!
9.50 am – My phone battery is about to die and so instead of just recharging it I think I could as well quickly switch phones. After crashing my phone last week I got a new one on Monday and of course I was keen on setting it up asap. But first of course I need to make a back-up of my old phone!
9.55 am – The back up doesn’t work and I don’t know why. I need to complain about it. Stefan is my designated victim. He doesn’t read his what’s app messages regularly at work but I don’t mind. I just want to rant a bit. After a few minutes I figure out how I can outsmart my damn computer and it starts to copy the files. Gosh I feel so tech-savvy!
10.15 am – My colleague calls and we talk about work stuff for a little. As we hang up I check on the files and it takes just foreeeeever to copy them! I am sulking a little and decide to kill some time by eating a snack.
10.45 am – I open my data analysis program to work on thesis stuff but then finally all files are saved and I put my SIM card in the new phone and start to set it up!
12.00 pm – I am still quickly switching phones! I can’t restore my what’s app chats and it drives me crazy!!!!!!!!! I send about 5 emails to my husband complaining and talking myself into a rage. I have the ability to throw a hissy fit even in writing. I should definitely put that on my resume under ‘special skills’
13.10 pm – My husband calls me but after about two minutes gently tries to get rid of me again. I can’t figure out why!…. Okay I can! At least he also sends me a how-to by email and finally I get it and can restore the damn chats. Gosh I feel so tech-savvy!
13.20 pm – Proud like a mofo but tired from all the mental and physical stress I get hungry and I also need chocolate. I remember a super delicious smoothie recipe I have come up with a few weeks ago. As it’s bright outside and also because I intend to share the recipe anyway I decide that it’s a good idea to seize the oportunity to shoot it now. I better eat another snack though – hangry me is even less patient – so I stuff my face with another portion of the avocado toast.
14.10 pm – I am a bit frustrated as the pictures don’t come out as I wanted but the smoothie is already lukewarm and I have no energy to restrain myself from the chocolate anymore so I call it a day and greedily suck in the Chocolate Mocha Cheesecake Smoothie.
2.05 pm – I briefly check my mails but the kitchen is really dirty and I need to get rid of the chocolate spatter before I properly start working now. I also need to clean the 4 glasses I covered in smoothie until I found one that looked nice and had the right size. Fellow HLB/ food bloggers – you know what I mean, right?
2.20 pm – I remember that I intended to share our dinner recipe as well. And as it’s still bright enough outside I decide I can as well cook and shoot it now. I can still work in the evening when I make dinner in the afternoon already! So I cut my sweetpotato and rinse my legumes.
2.34 pm – My phone rings. I have a bad habit of screening calls but it’s my best friend and of course I answer. He tells me that he wanted to do some banking in town and then stop by at his parent’s but the bank was closed and his parents forgot him and so he thought he’d give me a call and check if I was at home. I tell him to stop flattering me because I love to be his fill-in anyway!
2.45 pm – The boy stops by and we have a coffee and chat about the important things in life like how we love to come home after work with our spouses being still out, Benedict Cumberbatch and the importance of dying totally broke.
4 pm – The boy leaves and I go back to the kitchen to finish making dinner. When I am done it’s technically not bright enough anymore to take pictures. I try anyway but quickly become really frustrated! I eat some chocolate and then transfer the pictures to my computer but it doesn’t help much. I try to edit the best one a little and then go over to pick the best smoothie pictures and start to edit them. My frustration levels sky-rocket!
4.30 pm – I decide that it would be a good time to finally start working now. I answer a few emails and plan a little for the next three weeks and then I get sidetracked by……okay it’s youtube.
6.38 pm – My lovely husband calls and tells me that he’s on his way home and I realize that indeed I haven’t done anything for my thesis. I try to tell myself that I have still plenty of time *cough* *cough* lie *cough* *cough* and as I totally don’t buy it I feel a little sulky and pour me a glass of wine while I finish cleaning the kitchen.
7.30 pm – the hubby comes home we have dinner and then spend the evening with the usual evening shits couples do and I am not going into anymore details because the workday is over and yes I do see the irony 😛
If you read this here you’ve really made it through my workday with me. Thanks for listening to my rambles out loud! Congrats, you are awesome 😀 I swear it’s not always like this. There are times and days when I kill it at home. I swear I kill it! I mean it. Seriously!
I’ve kinda lost my reputation, right?
Have a lovely day whether you’re working in an office or not!
