Monday morning’s got me at my non-existent balls!
This may be due to my dismay about my recent discovery that the NY trip is in 7 weeks whereas I was so sure it was in only 6 weeks. I know it’s silly and I get over it now.
But this may be also because traffic is horrible everywhere right now. There have been numerous bad traffic jams over the last week or so with the one this morning being the worst. The usually last 7 minutes of my commute took me 40 minutes in total. On Thursday the train broke and I had to walk all the way from the city center to my work place. It took me 30 minutes instead of 3 minutes! Buhu I am not patient and I hate traffic. And driving a car with manual transmission sucks hard in this scenario.
Nevertheless I made it to work and now I am sipping my second cup of coffee looking at my to-do list that just doubled as my colleague called in sick this morning. She offered to come – flu or not – but I put her in her place and told her to stay away from me! When she’s sick you have to be bossy with her or she shows up 😉 I am a huge friend of staying at home when sick. And even when not…. one day I have to tell you which yearbook awards I won in my senior year. But not today…
Let’s speak a little about last week. This was the first full week in real life again and transition was not easy. I always dive smoothly from work to holiday and have a rather bumpy way back from holiday to work. I guess most people can relate here.
There were two workouts last week and they were painful and horrible. Tuesday was not as horrible as Thursday. On Thursday the workout included 80 push-ups. 40 in the first set and 40 in the second set. They broke me. I am never cheating during a workout. Never! But I was this close! But 80 push-ups later I had no feeling in my arms whatsoever. Just utter numbness.
Friday my arms were in pain even when I didn’t move them and doing things over my head like shampooing my hair or putting something in the stupid oven was difficult.
Saturday I thought I must die. I couldn’t even properly eat with my hands. I couldn’t even bring my hand to my nose. I couldn’t brush my hair or tie it together, I couldn’t scratch my back or fasten the seatbelt in the car. And I didn’t shower or bake anything! Today is the first day I can use them properly again. Next time I have to face a 6 week break I might as well quit that bloody sport altogether!
Work is really okay at the moment. I have a manageable workload and my tasks range from fun to not too annoying! But we all know, this can change within a heartbeat! No but really, I can’t complain. I have a new intern starting today and I have a neat to-do list I am just working through. Oh and the one of my colleague that messes with mine. Hello job interviews!
Food and Fun
I started to see other people again aka I have to pretend to be a normal human being again.
Last Tuesday we were offered Champions League Tickets for free and so we went to see FC Bayern vs. Dinamo Zagreb. We had a fun evening with a good game, a bag of Bailey’s almonds and a really good atmosphere. But it was freezing cold and I was overly glad that I had my beanie and anorak with me. My autumn uniform
On Thursday I met up with my colleague and our former colleague for lunch. It was good and fun to catch up. Much girls talk was included. I am almost never just with girls so it was kinda fun to be a little silly and giggly. We went to this amazing place with the crispiest Falafel balls I’ve ever eaten. The hummus was ridiculously creamy and I am sold to going there again soon.
Friday evening was a relaxing ‘I refuse to let go BBQ season though I am glad it’s already autumn’ grill and chill on the balcony. Wine and my autumn uniform included. And a blanket. Yes, it’s that cold already. And gosh am I beautiful!
On Saturday was the German national holiday. It was kind of special because it was the 25th anniversary of the German Unity Day. It was also kind of a bad joke as this was a Saturday. So instead of giving us a day off work it gave us a day off grocery shopping! Yes this is Germany where on Sundays and public holidays every damn shop is closed. Fail!
We celebrated anyways with some typical German food. To be honest it was a coincidence and I only realized when I was taking those pictures ;-P
Yesterday we had three of our nieces over for baking muffins. And when they were gone I had the overpowering and irrevocable need to declutter our apartment. We started with the living room and hall and I trew out a lot. Stuff I didn’t touch in forever but never quite could let go either. Yesterday I finally trew it out. Gosh it felt wonderful. Next stop is my wardrobe. Sadly this need is gone now but I am sure as soon as I start to dump things again the maniac flow will come back.
The PSL and I
Also this weekend the Pumpkin Spice Latte made it back to my kitchen. Three years back when this magical concoction made it to Germany for the first time I was totally intrigued and went to Starbucks where I eagerly forked out an indecent amount of money and only little later had my first PSL experience ever.
The first sip = utter bliss!
The second sip = ooooh it is a bit sweet, isn’t it?
The third sip = I am not sure that I can drink the whole cup but it was darn expensive!!!
The next 12 h = eeeehwwww give me some heartburn remedy!!!!!
This was the one and only PSL in this year. Two years back – the memory of the most epic heartburn in the entire history of my body had been almost vanished – I went to the Starbucks of my choice and was blindsided by the really beautiful PSL marketing campaign. And before I even realized it I had forked out an indecent amount of money again and was sipping the next epic heartburn.
It is okay to fall for something twice but if you fall a third time you’re an idiot and don’t deserve better! So finally last year I was smart enough to stay away from the Starbucks instrument of torture and made my own.
It’s creamy and spicy and perfect on the cinnamon front. Stefan couldn’t have looked more appaled but to me it’s epic with no heartburn included! And it comes for a very reasonable amount of money! It’s moderate in sweetness aka drinkable and it goes great along with a slice or two of this fluffy and soft Cinnamon Swirl Breakfast Bread
Oh and don’t miss out on Stefan’s Spicy Chili con Carne! Perfect for bulk cooking, freezing and having ready to eat Chili at hand anytime
Okey dokey party people. Let’s kick Monday’s ass, get my non-existent balls back and make it a sweet early escape so that I can first clean the kitchen and then make it messy again!
