Hello June! Now that you’re already here I expect you to bring me warm weather, lots of sun and this beautiful feeling of summer! I am definitely ready for this. I am ready for more BBQs, relaxing in the sunset, dancing, loving life, laughing a lot and feeling the warmth of my skin.
I have always been a person living a bit too much in the future. Now I am definitely living for the summer holidays. 5 weeks off, 5 days in Italy, 4 weeks in Canada and the USA. I feel very grateful for having the opportunity to travel so much, to experience so much. But I am being whiney and emotional and I better shut up now and tell you a little of my last week instead.
Last week has been a good week. I went to Crossfit three times for a cardio blast, weightlifting & strength and gymnastics. It was pretty good and sweaty and I left the box each time with a feeling of satisfaction.
On Wednesday when I came home from work I wanted to go on a run. I haven’t had this longing to hit the pavement in forever but it was strong and prominent and even though I had been at the gym in the morning I followed my desire. IT WAS SO GOOD! Ever since my motivational meltdown a few weeks ago I try to make myself free of numbers. I’ve already stopped stepping on the scale and counting calories and now I went on my first run in at least 5 years without my heart rate monitor. I didn’t track my time or my distance, nor did I track burned calories. I just went running for the fun of it! It felt fabulous.
All the Food
Only this weekend I realized that our food consumption has decreased over the last few weeks. I found out as we made our weekly shopping list and didn’t need much to stock up on all our essentials. We even had a lot of fruit and veggies left. So strange! I also realized that I am almost never hungry at the moment. Maybe because it’s getting warmer.
Nevertheless food was pretty tasty. We kick-started the week with some epic sandwiches and a celebration meal at our favorite Irish Pub. I am on a huge sandwich kick lately. Whatever I cook I secretly check if you can make a sandwich out of it.
Unless it’s an Avocado and Cucumber Sushi Salad – this would just make a ridiculous sandwich 😉
With the warmer weather there also always comes the craving for sitting outside and have a BBQ. I am experimenting a lot with different marinades and sauces lately. I get a kick out of it and as this is Stefan’s strong culinary interest we get to spend some time together in the kitchen and create new recipes or try to perfect old ones. Last week I introduced you to the Hot and Spicy Strawberry Marinade which goes along just great with beef!
This weekend’s winners were the Sweet and Spicy Ginger Marinade which is just perfect for marinading chicken and the Mango Satay Sauce which will tickle your taste buds in a really nice way 😉 Both recipes are to come soon!
You might know about me that I don’t make friends easily. I am not good at small talk and people often find me weird. I need to many words to describe what I want to say because I fear people get me wrong. And when I realize I just shut up and don’t say much anymore. When I am with friends I hardly ever shut up but when I am with people I don’t know very well I don’t talk much. Another fact that also adds to this is that people – especially men but also women – often misinterpret me. We had a guest from Melbourne at the box last week and I leaped to the opportunity to speak English again. I usually wouldn’t have said much to a guest besides ‘hi’ and ‘see you’ and what you say during a class but speaking English was just too appealing. I so rarely get the chance now that I don’t work in international HR anymore. Our guest was a really nice guy and we had a good and long chat the other day. I might have been a little too enthusiastic though as he mentioned his girlfriend really quickly and seemed to relax when I mentioned the hubby. After this was sorted out we got along really well. It’s a strange world where being friendly is often mistaken as flirting. I am friendly to anyone, women and men and it always baffles me that this gives so much room for misinterpretation.
Friday was Stefan’s birthday. As coolly as he took becoming 30 last year as so not coolly he took becoming 31 this year 😉 We met some friends at a Mexican Bar in Munich and had a good time. We shared a starter of corn flakes crusted chicken fingers and a main dish of mixed tacos. And the restaurant gave Stefan an explosive Daiquiri. Very nice!
Saturday was mainly consumed by kitchen shenanigans including a photo shoot that took me 3 h in total as always when I was ready for a new shoot the sun came out and blocked my plans. But in the end I made it in large part even to my satisfaction.
Sunday morning I woke up bright and early at 6.30 am and seized the first wee hours of the day by drinking coffee and editing my photos in my pajamas. I love to be creative at the moment. It makes me pretty happy to just scroll through my photos and look at all the lovely things there.
Later we went to my in-laws to celebrate Stefan’s and Grace’s birthday. My little one is such a big girl now. But she humored me with hopping on my lap and cuddling me a bit. We gave her my old unicycle which we had fixed up with a new tire. Looked pretty good again after cleaning!
I came back home in the afternoon and had the apartment to myself as Stefan was out for soccer. I made a cake for him to bring to work and cleaned the apartment a bit. Later on I made myself comfy on the balcony and read a little about food photography whilst munching on some strawberries and sipping some coconut water. Pure bliss!
Now a new week is about to start. 3 days of work followed by an extraordinarily long weekend. Summer is coming!
