The weather is still shitty though it’s raining now and not snowing anymore, I’ve already ticked my Crossfit workout off my to-to-list, I have four blissful days off lying in front of me, I am caffeinated, well fed and ready to dive into my data…. if only I wasn’t the Queen of procrastination!!!
Let’s talk about this a bit out loud!
Level of Procrastination
So according to this I am definitely on the 3rd level: super slacker! I usually have a good overview of my tasks and I am not bad at estimating the time and work a certain tasks requires. That’s where the bad begins…..
So I just don’t start. All the way I have a very queasy conscience and even when I try to trick myself and break down the task in tiny pieces and set specific times to work myself through the list I just don’t do it! You may wonder why? So do I! But maybe it’s because I have so many important things to do on a daily basis that certain tasks just magically always end up on the bottom of my list of priorities! To make things easier let’s just coincidently take my working on my dissertation as an exemplary task!
Important, life-depending things I do when I should write my dissertation
Food Shopping – because I urgently need to stock up on essentials like tapioca flour and sesame seed
Cooking – because we have to eat a four course menu from time to time, and leftovers always come in handy for tomorrow’s lunch!
More Cooking – because it’s necessary to cook in bulk and freeze meals right now!
Googling – like how to use tapioca flour and prevent freezer burn
Cleaning the apartment – because I am a bit messy and need a clean environment to start working on my thesis
Decluttering the office – because when I have a home office I shouldn’t need to work in the living room
Calling my Mom – because we haven’t talked in ages!
Calling my Sister – because we haven’t talked in ages!
Calling Stefan – because I need to know when he’ll be home to decide whether it’s worth to start now!
Working out – because I am just happier/ calmer/ relaxter after a good workout!
Laundry – because it’s just nicer when you have neatly folded underwear!
More Laundry – because I just go through workout clothes like crazy!
Planning the USA trip – because we need to find placed to sleep now! After all it’s only 5 month!
Taking a Nap – because so much cleaning, cooking and planning really makes me tired!
Having a Snack – because so much cleaning, cooking and planning really makes me hungry!
Writing a Blog Post about Procrastination – because I’ve already ticked my Crossfit workout off my to-to-list, I have four blissful days off lying in front of me, I am caffeinated, well fed and ready to dive into my data….
Luckily – unfortunately – there’s always a point when you just have to do the shite and the procrastination comes to a natural end. The point is now – because after all I am still a little geek! And I am slowly starting to panick! So without any further ado I say goodbye for today and rock that data 😉
