I hope you have a good day! Yesterday evening after soccer practice Stefan and I had a nice and cozy evening in and celebrated our two-year engagement anniversary. As we got engaged in Rome we went all nostalgic and organized mixed antipasti. It was a really nice evening and we both agreed that getting engaged felt years more away. We even checked the date on my engraving in my engagement ring. But it was really only two years.I was bushed from the exhausting week and fell asleep around 11 pm.
I woke up at 8 am, chucked a cup of coffee and made breakfast for us. Then I woke up Stefan and we mentally prepared for getting out. For today a long run was scheduled. It was high time as the half is only four weeks away now. So I am happy to be able to give you an update on my half-marathon training.
It had really been a while since my last long run. I had worked out really hard that week and yesterday’s soccer practice was way harder than anticipated. But my mind was set and – even some people might call it persistent – I was pig-headed enough not to change my plans. I was sore when we started and it got worse with every single step.
We ran together but Stefan wanted to go a little faster and held back for me. After 4 k the path turned direction and we were hit by headwind! When I say headwind I mean a missive wind wall that made breathing and moving forward almost impossible. I had heard on the news that we were to face a Sahara sandstorm today but I totally forgot about it. It was excruciating and I felt I had never ran slower in my entire life.
At 8 k the path turned direction again and from then it was a little better. We had packed an energy bar and I felt my energy levels were much higher than the last times. So I will take one with me from now on. At that point I send Stefan away to run his own pace. I was so slow!!! At 10k I was due to hit tailwind but the wind had calmed down!!! My legs were stiff and sore and I really had to push hard. Let’s just say it wasn’t my day!
When I finally arrived home I was dead. The strangest thing was that I only needed two minutes more than the last time. Huuh???? And I found Sahara sand on my compression socks!
Here you can see my details:
Back home I first stretched/ foam rolled, then took a bath and then had lunch. Since then I am chilling on the sofa and refuse to move for the rest of the day. Binge watching The Biggest Loser US is also included. Stefan is at the moment at his soccer club socializing with his team mates. My perfect men had dutifully set up a huge pot of chili before he left. I love that men!
When he comes back later we will officially announce the BBQ season open. We have some steak, asparagus and white potatoes waiting in the fridge. Love it!
So hope you have a nice and relaxing day today. By the way if I mention to run a half-marathon ever again in my life please take a dumbbell and knock some sense into me!!!
